Mecatech fitting instructions for
POP CV boot

Mecatech advises before replacing a drive shaft boot to thoroughly inspect the joint, shaft and general condition before the fitting procedure is commenced.
Any signs of premature wear of the joint or shaft generally requires replacement. Mecatech advise fitting the correct OEM component in conjunction with either the Mecatech POP or MEGAPOP drive shaft boot for a long lasting repair.

Fitting Guidelines - Drive Shaft Boots

Mecatech fitting guide lines only apply to the Mecatech boots.

Commence by ensuring the fitting cone is free of oil, dust or debris.

d
On a clean surface apply the entire contents of the boot lube packet to the whole surface of the cone.
Turn the boot inside out. Slide the boot down the cone until it grips at the large end.
With the boot held in position take the cone to the car.

d
Slip the cone over the end of the axle as far as it will go.
Grip the CV boot and push it over the cone onto the axle shaft.
Remove the cone and turn the CV boot right side out. Wipe off the boot lube and ensure that small end is completely out.

d
Apply grease directly into the joint until the joint is full. Place the remaining grease inside the CV boot. Ensure that the seating zones of both boot and joint are clean. Slide the boot into position, ensuring a snug fit on the joint.
Apply the large end clamp, using a double wrap around the joint. Use the tensioning tool to ensure a tight fit.
After installing the clamp, cut away any excess rubber if required, using a sharp knife.

Before installing the small-end clamp, ensure that the length of the boot is correct (see photographs below). If necessary, re-install the axle in the hub before fixing the small-end clamp. Small-end clamp is single-wrap.

d
Small end is too close to large end.
Allow boot to adopt natural length.
Small end is too far away from large end.
